MS in Mathematics in Finance is a three-semester masters degree for students to seek positions in the financial industry. Students typically take 4 courses per semester, participate in the weekly Masters Seminar, and usually do an internship during the summer between the second and third semesters. MS in Mathematics in Finance have strong contacts within the financial community and offers significant help for internship placement by distributing resumes to prospective employers and hosting on-campus interviews. The track record of our students receiving summer internships is extremely strong. We place heavy emphasis on job placement, with assistance given to resume preparation, interviewing skills, and access to our growing network of contacts.
This is a professional master’s program that prepares students for careers in quantitative finance. Course work covers mathematical background, financial theory and models, computational techniques, and practicalities of financial markets and instruments. Instructors include Courant Institute faculty and New York City finance professionals. There is a strong career placement component.
Coursework: Students must complete 36 points of coursework and a master’s project. The Mathematics in Finance Master’s Degree Curriculum consists of 12 courses, 8 required courses and 4 elective courses. The required courses include: Derivative Securities, Stochastic Calculus, Continuous Time Finance, Computational Methods for Finance, Risk and Portfolio Management with Econometrics, Project and Presentation.
The Courant Master of Science Program in Mathematics in Finance is a professional master’s program founded in the late 1990's. Since the beginning, the program has had a strong pragmatic component, including practically oriented courses and student mentoring by finance professionals.
